BAE Systems Submarine Solutions has around 5,100 employees based in Barrow with over 250 vacancies in critical and scarce skill areas, helping it meet the demands of current and future requirements. These include a need for 150 professional engineers, 100 designers plus other skills planners and project managers. There will also be more vacancies dependent on the MoD's commitment to progressing the Successor submarine programme.  The Successor design office currently has around 250 people. It will have risen to 300 by January 2010.
