| Overview of Defence Industry NW 2010 |

|
Defence Industry NW 2010 will highlight the challenges facing the Defence Industry, its skills base and the opportunities the industry has. This event will be of interest to defence companies, trade union officials, local and central government and the armed services. The aim is to agree what the regions’ unions, industry and supporting public sector should do to ensure the industry prospers.
The Government will hold a Strategic Defence Review (SDR) immediately after the next election. SDR will set the role we want the United Kingdom to play in the world and how much the nation is prepared to pay for security and defence. February 2010’s defence green paper advocates increased cooperation with international partners to deliver defence more efficiently and effectively. Against the backdrop of defence being one of the most resilient elements of the regions’ manufacturing industrial base and likely constraints on Government resources for defence spending, it is likely that hard choices and important decisions lie ahead.
The Defence Industry NW 2010 conference on 5 March 2010 at Radisson BLU Hotel, Manchester Airport will be an opportunity for industry, politicians of all parties and trade unions to tell the current and an incoming government what the defence priorities should be.
